Antero in clouds Friday evening, the last weekend in July. The top of Mount Antero, along with the rest of the Collegiate Peaks is being shielded by some low-lying clouds, which is making us question the weather for riding tomorrow. This view is looking west from Colorado route 285, in the Arkansas River Valley.

Monarch Pass Once again, our ride begins at the top of Monarch Pass. The cost of the shuttle service that brings us here has increased to $19. Between the price of gas, and the amount of extra time we would have to waste shuffling cars before and after the actual ride, it's still worth taking the shuttle.

Regroup at trailhead Bob and I wait at a trail junction while the rest of our group, and many other riders, push up the first hill.

Panorama The more altitude we gain, the better the view gets.

We're still climbing, and the terrain is getting a little rockier.

Now we are on our way downhill, and a fast one at that.

Group photo At the bottom of the hill, the trail shoots out of the woods, into a large clearing. Next, we head back into the woods, and start climbing again. This is a good spot for a snack, and a group photo.

We are climbing again, and getting back above treeline.

BR in fog Now as we gain altitude, we are climbing right into the hovering clouds. I hope it doesn't rain! Charlie in fog

Viewpoint We are almost done climbing. In about a quarter mile we start another steep, fast downhill. This is a good spot for a photo, as we have been in the woods for some time, and here the trees open up that we can see into the valley.

Fletch - downhill Here comes Fletch on a steep, slippery section of the downhill, followed by Bob. BR - downhill
Willie - downhill Willie and Charlie follow down the same section. Charlie - downhill

BR on bridge Bob, taking the safe way, followed by Willie. Willie on bridge

BR on Rainbow After crossing the creek, there is an option to end the ride, but we decided to continue on an extra segment called the "Rainbow Trail." Be careful, as this portion of the trail is shared with motorcycles. motorcycles

Panorama Another panorama - we are now getting close to the end.

Charlie - last hill Charlie, followed by Bob and Fletch, making their way down the last hill to the road. BR, Fletch - last hill

Last hill One last look back on final section of the Rainbow Trail, before we hit the pavement.

The Young Dudes The following weekend, the first weekend in August, I rode the same trail with a younger group of guys. I didn't have too much time to take photos, other than a standard group shot. This team moves a little faster than the previous one.
